Westbury Park Festival 2010
Festival dates: 12th - 18th July
Street Party: Saturday 17th July
Planning is already underway for next year. The next open meeting is on Wednesday 13th January - please contact secretary@westburyparkfestival.com or one of the committee members for details.
Meeting postponed
Due to the bad weather, the meeting has been postponed until Tuesday 9th February.
The festival dates have been set to after the football World Cup and Wimbledon to avoid clashes with these popular events.
Coming up
2010 will see the Only Choirs Aloud return by popular demand, along with the Quiz Night, Open Gardens and, of course, the Street Party. Other events are in the planning stages, but we are considering a musical evening (or two) and a scarecrow competition (see "What we need" below).
Last year's festival
Last year's festival was very successful, with twelve events on seven days and additionally raising over £1200 for charity. More history can be found following the links. Scenes from Westbury Park Festival 2009.
Getting Involved
A festival of this size always requires a lot of work, although the more people who help the less work you all have to do. Many hands make light work!
Planning
The planning stage is fairly easy, largely deciding what events we would like and can manage to put on during the festival week. Every event over the last two years has been popular so the main limitation we have is organiser energy. Experience is not necessary, only enthusiasm.
What we need
- We are particularly keen to run a scarecrow competition (i.e. home-made scarecrows in your garden, or even your allotment), but we need a volunteer to coordinate it. It is not a large job - we just need someone prepared to act as point of contact for the scarecrow-makers and to organise the judging.
- We would like more people volunteer to act as chair. Again, this is largely a matter of coordinating the committee members in their various roles. Even if you do not want to be chair, volunteering for something else may free up another committee member for this role.
- Ideas. Last year's Botanical Gardens and Tree tours were very popular but we don't want to repeat them (for now): if you have any ideas about similarly interesting activities or indeed anything you think the festival could (or should) put on please let us know - or better still, come to the meeting and tell the committee yourself.
We are always interested in the following:
- local organisations who would like to run a stall (closed for this year)
- sponsors!
- volunteers to help at the street party
- people to deliver leaflets (closed for this year)
- people to take photographs of the events (the more photographs the better!)
- new gardens to display at Open Gardens
If you are interested in making the festival as good as it can be, please get involved!
